Terms for Starters
 

In Court and On Trial


 

Defendant
an individual or group that is sued or accused in court

Defense/Defence
the action of defending in a court 

Confession
the acknowledgement of fault or doings

Motive
the reason behind doing something, often hidden underlying actions

Prosecution
the legal process  of charging someone with a crime

Suspect
the individual or group that is believed to have committed a crime but not yet proven guilty


Verdict
the legal decision that is made by a jury in court that is made verbally by the judge

 

Proof and Evidence


 

Circumstantial Evidence
evidence that is indirect that requires connection and further detail that then supports additional explanation to prove connection to a crime or conviction

Direct Evidence
evidence that is given proof that does not need any other supporting truth or explanation to prove connection to a crime or conviction

Hearsay
information that is given by someone, often relayed with "she said she told me..."

Physical Evidence
in ways of materials that are often collected at the crime scene or found at a place of residency that can be used to prove a verdict towards the prosecution

Testimony
a formal or written statement in the court of law often worded in ways towards innocence








 

Arrested and Investigated


 


Alibi 
used as legal defense in a criminal case that is not at the scene, using another person that allows the committed to rely on someone else not being at the place of crime

Confession
the acknowledgement of fault of the crime towards guilt or helping with a portion of a crime

Presumption of Innocence
an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty behind reasonable doubt

Suspect
a person that is believed to have committed the crime but not yet proven guilty

 

Crimes and Responsibility


 


Attempted Murder
the intent of a crime that takes the steps towards killing an individual with malice in place

Evidence Tampering
the action of altering, destroying, hiding, tampering...that interferes with evidence that could be used in the court to prove guilty or innocence

Fraud/ Deception
the intentional use of phrases, quotes, or other information that leads to misinforming others in ways of wrongdoings


Murder
the unlawful premediated killing

Obstruction of Evidence
a criminal act of destroying, altering, or concealing evidence that interferes with legal investigation

Premeditation
planning in advanced ways that is thoroughly through out
